Task 10

The Lexical Approach has some characteristics of the Communicative Approach, but the difference is the treatment given to the Lexis. It shows Lexis as:
 The base of the language.
 Words combinations, which will produce coherent texts.

Its main characteristics are:
 A new concept to the constitution of language: “language consists of a gramaticalised Lexis, not lexicalised grammar” (The Lexical Approach by Michael Lewis – http://www.ltpwebsite.com/lexicalapproach.htm)
 Use mainly of receptive skills with emphasis to the listening.
 A new hole for grammar: in the Lexical Approach grammar also is considered a receptive skill; its study involves perception of differences and similarities of the grammar rules.
 The use of the paradigm “Observe-Hypothesis-Experiment cycle” in the place of “the Present-Practice-Produce cycle.
