How can we test communicative competence?

In testing communicative competence we should do that in a real situation, I mean in a situation of real conversation. Since the main idea of “communicative competence” is the ability to use the new language to communicate, we should test grammar and vocabulary in a context, or rather in a real situation of communication.
When testing listening, we shouldn’t consider if a student can understand this or that sentence or words in a test, but if the student is able to understand the meaning and message of the text and if he/she can produce his/her own responses for that situation.
When testing writing, again we should give students real reasons to do task, such as to write a letter to someone, or report the activities the did last weekend and so on…
In testing speaking the teacher should create situation for the student interact with others and use the new language in real situation. This way the teacher will be able to see if the student is correctly using the new language.
