How we can test communicative competence.

When a teacher tests the class’s communicative competence, he/she should take ways to measure how the students are able to use language in real life situation. The emphasis is not the grammar ability but the capacity to give appropriate answers according to context.

Is necessary chose a specific purpose according to the early studies. The teacher will select themes relation with the need’s class, so the test “should reflect the communicative situation in which the testees are likely to find themselves”. The ideal is propose a place for sharing information, because the real communication occurs in interaction.

Communicative competence includes as speaking/listening as writing/reading, so the tests should measure all of these abilities. For measure speaking/listening we can use “information gap activity” in which the students give information on each other with lacks and sharing opinions in a specific context pre-purposed. We can use to the “Role Play” – the students are shared according to the roles every one acquire in the play.

For measure reading/writing we can use instructions - or questions - to write a letter, memo, summary (they need read the instructions and write to do this activity).
