To be considered communicatively competence, the student must be able to produce correct grammatical sentences and use those sentences in the correct time or situation. In testing productive skills an emphasis is given to appropriateness rather than correctness. The student must focus on general meaning more than on specific details. To test communicative competence both are tested: comprehend and respond in real time. Only few tests are completely communicative. The student must show his/her abilities on listening, comprehend, etc, not only on produce grammatical sentences.
The tests are very specific, usually based on “a description of the language that the testees need to use”.
There is a little problem with evaluation as there are not always right or wrong answers on real life situations exposed. The performance of the testees will be evaluated.
Concluding, the objective of communicative competence testes is to test language in the way it is used on real life, exposing real situations. Even not been possible to make language tests communicative, it is possible to give them communicative elements.
