  Poor Waldbaums. I worked for them from 1986 - 1996.
  I started in Bensonhurst( store 148).
  Then A&P started closing alot of stores. I was getting transferred and bounced all around Brooklyn, and ended up in Queens.(#148,#83,#133,#139,#57,#76,#175)
  Now A&P purchased Pathmark, and part of the deal was to close 5 Waldbaums ( 4 in Staten Island and 1 on Long Island). Julia must be turning in her grave. Poor Waldbaums :(

  I started with the A&P on Rockaway Pky. in 1950. Worked for the company for 18 yrs. in various areas of Bklyn. and Queens, including Bay Ridge, Sheephead Bay, Bensonhurst, East New York etc. In 1965 I moved into my new home in Melville, L.I. and went to work for Hills in Lawrence L.I. I left the industry in 1980, and started with Grumman Aerospace in Bethpage. I retired in 1995. A year later, my local Waldbaum hired me P.T. Well. it was supposed to be for a short while but I am still at it, in the Meat Dept. I did stop in the store located on Rockaway Pky. while I was visiting the area...GET BACK TO ME...TOM PESCE

  Waldbaums was a great place for picking up mommies back in the early 80's i grew up in canarsie just at 89th and flatlands,we still have our family house there,my father was one of the last whithicans. i was there on the 4th of nov. the houses look the same. i noticed i was the only white guy there, i laughed and looked, the people are also the same but much darker hence.. i live in ireland now with a my nice family but i always brag to kids about canarsie,and you know what? people love my canarsie accent here.

  I started working for waldbaums in 1976 at age 16 [store#60] on Ralph ave. I took the buy-out about 2 and a half years ago--moved my self and my family to PA. Im currently an asst. mgr for a company called "WEIS" Leaving waldbaums was the best move i ever made(after 23 years).
