Roundup: Red Sox's Pedro
Breaks Silence With Outburst
Ace Takes Exception to Boston Media

Compiled From Wire Reports

ARLINGTON, Texas (April 24) -- Pedro Martinez isn't talking to reporters, but the Boston pitcher spoke up in the Red Sox clubhouse Thursday.

Martinez, apparently upset with something written about him, had a loud outburst aimed at some Boston-area writers in the clubhouse before the Red Sox played Texas.

Shortstop Nomar Garciaparra stepped in and asked the reporters to get away from Martinez.

The three-time Cy Young Award winner began his self-imposed silence before his April 17 start against Tampa Bay, when he allowed just two singles in seven shutout innings. That came five days after giving up a career-worst 10 runs in 4 1/3 innings against Baltimore.

Other than that horrendous outing against the Orioles, Martinez has allowed just three runs -- one earned -- over 29 innings his other four starts. He is 2-1 with a 2.97 ERA.

Martinez allowed just three hits and an unearned run in seven innings against Texas on Tuesday, when he struck out eight and walked six, one short of his career high. He declined to answer questions after the game
