Subject: Public assistance

Agree strongly with your words in MingPao on 16/04/2004.
I work in a public hospital. Most of our patients receive public assistance. To me,it is worthy to help people with handicap to earn their living, even if what is required to support them is greater than what they can earn. But the present system of public assistance makes people dependent. Such help removes the capacity of a person to live his own life. It is not because of inadequate resource that kills the woman and her kids. It is the Hong Kong Citizen who receives PA that killed his wife and his daughters. It is the helping system that destroys.
