原因:此書以散文形式敘述了一群人的故事,獨特的是每篇獨立的故事之間又有微妙的聯繫,因為全書都圍繞一群特定的人而寫,只是他們有時會當主角,有時卻擔演配角。其中有一篇題為赤子的故事感 人至深。赤子講述一個智商一百五十的哥哥和他的弱智弟弟的故事。 關麗珊首先以第一人稱從哥哥的角度出發,寫出他怎看待這段感情:自母親死後,他被逼照顧他一直引以為恥的智弱弟弟,甚至認為智商低於五十的人無資格生存於世,他一直將之視之為包袱。最後他在認無可認之下把弟弟遺留在遊樂場中,後來他終於醒覺,逝返找回弟弟。由於這一部份從哥哥的角度出發,所以筆觸冷硬無情,但寫他找回弟那一幕雖無加入對他的心情和思想的描寫,但卻感人肺腑。
而後一部分以弟弟為第一人稱續寫,寫出了一個弱智人士真摯單純思想,很能打動人心。
此書其他故事都在探討人生哲理及人性最真摯感情為主題,而且題材往往獨樹一格,構思奇特,很能喚醒存身在冰冷都市的都市人對人生或生命的反醒。
