Subject: Mud the Dog
Hey everyone. I was just reading some of the "Fave Scenes" on this site and got to the one from 98 and it had Bo and Nora's dog, Mud. I had no idea they had one. Can someone please tell me the history of the dog; when did they get it, why, what happened to him?
Thank you :D

Re: Mud the Dog -- MaryAnn, Thu, Jan 07 - 6:48:18am
I loved Mud!!! Mud was actually Marty and Patrick's dog Penny. He/She came to live with Bo and Nora when Marty and Patrick left town. They changed his name to Mud when he decided it was appropriate to interrupt a Bo and Nora make-out session. He caused all sorts of trouble - getting into everything. Nora pretended to hate him but deep down I think she loved the hound. She did buy him a Christmas bone after all. Mud just sort of disappeared from the screen but I like to think that they shipped him down to the ranch in Texas where he lived out his life running around.

I've never really understood why they named him Mud. After reading your explanation I tried to translate the word to see if there other meanings that I don't know but I didn't find any.. I do remember him interupting them ("Bo since when your nose is so cold and wet?" or something like that! ROFL!) but I can't make the connection to the name Mud..so you got me curious now!!
I really loved this dog!! And ITA that Nora was crazy about him too!! I think they should have another dog!!

Oh...another question I can semi-answer -- MaryAnn, Thu, Jan 07 - 9:10:32am
This is such an American thing that I could see why you'd be confused.
When Abraham Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth, Booth jumped to the stage of the theater and broke his leg. He was treated by a Doctor Mudd. People assumed that Mudd was in on it with Booth but he was just an innocent. So when people say "Your name is Mud(d)" it's meant as an insult.
And Bo said that to poor poor Penny when s/he interrupted Bo and Nora. LOL And the name stuck.
Does that help at ALL??? LOL

Didn't the dog also chew up her grandmother's linens? I loved when Bo told Mel that Nora hated dogs. LOL

He also chewed up and slobbered all over the resumes Nora received for an assistant. It's all the dog's fault that she hired Georgie!

LMAO I remember when they came home and Patrick and Marty left the dog tied to the door. Nora was still on a roll about Bo's motorcycle, and she was like "Please just get rid of it, give it away, throw it off a cliff I don't care." And Bo thought she was talking about the dog LMFAO!

Thanks, Mary Ann for the info about Mud. I always thought that it came from the 'mud', because Nora thought he was a dirty dog.

... was the reason for the name Mud!! Thanks Mary Ann!! The sences with Mud were great and so funny!! And I love the one in the Jacuzzi!! And when Bo tried to get rid of him and told Nora he gave him to Asa, Nora really panicked "I didn't hate him that much!!" LOL!!
