This isn't exactly the answer you were looking for, but is a solution to your problem. You see, I have the same problem with Region2 DVDs: I just cant see them on my TV, furthermore, my DVD player rejects them. So, I just purchased an 'international' DVD player for $125 (US). There was even one for only $79 (UD). Just use any internet search engine to find a store in your country that sells international DVD players.

With international DVD players, a DVD's format is never a problem. The one I purchased will play any region and format DVD, and because it has digital progressive scan OUTPUT, it will play on any TV anywhere in the world. It converts DVD video NTSC to PAL and PAL to NTSC. It plays a huge variety of discs: DVD-R, DVD+R, VCD, SVCD, DTS-CD, SA-CD, CD, CD-R, MP3, JPEG, Kodak CD, mpg, mpeg, MPG1, MPG2, MPEG1, MPEG2, .vob & HDCD.
