Date Posted: 11:12:40 02/17/05 Thu In reply to: mynx 's message, "goran's nickname" on 18:42:33 02/16/05 Wed Sime(Šime) has no actual meaning. Goran got it when he moved from Šibenik(Dalmatia region) to Zagreb in order to attend Acting academy. Because he was a perfect exemplar of a typical Dalmatian guy(by body constitution, and he has a strong Dalmatian accent) his friend, also an actor, Rene Bitorajec started to call him Sime. Goran is a neutral name and is equally prevailing in all parts of Croatia, while Sime is a typical Dalmatian name, and also very often in Dalmatia. That’s why Bitorajec started to call him Sime out of joke to emphasize his Dalmatian origin. By the way, Sime is a shorter, Dalmation alias for Simun(Šimun), that is Croatian version of a Biblical, Jewish name(Simon, in English), and is pronounced SH-Y-M-E(as in elephant).
