SA MGA NAGBABALAK MAGBISITA SA SORSOGON... I'd like to share this article with you which I found on the website of the Philippine Information Agency (http://www.pia.gov.ph/press/p030329.htm)...

======================================================
Sorsogon launches Balik Sorsogon 2003 program

SORSOGON CITY (29 March) — The Sorsogon Provincial Tourism Council (SPTC) has launched Balik Sorsogon 2003 program to entice Sorsoganons now living in other parts of the country, and more especially those now living in other countries to come home even for just a short visit to renew ties with relatives and friends and enjoy Sorsogon’s many attractions.

The Balik Sorsogon program at the same time seeks to drum up international interest on the province of Sorsogon which is home to the gentle giants of the sea — the Butanding or whale sharks — and the pristine and green Bulusan Mountain Lake Resort.

The Balik Sorsogon Program is being undertaken by the SPTC in conjunction with the 2003 Kasanggayahan Festival slated October 17 - 30, which is spearheaded by the Kasanggayahan Foundation, Inc. and the Sorsogon provincial government to commemorate the foundation anniversary of the province. The province will be celebrating its 109th year anniversary as a separate province from Albay.

The Kasanggayahan Festival Committee, chaired by Msgr. Francisco P. Monje, has set October 20 as Balik Sorsogon Day, which will feature socials and interaction with locals, relatives and friends, local government officials and civic leaders, cultural entertainment, tree planting at the Bacon-Manito Geothermal Facility Ecopark, and a tour of the many tourist attractions within Sorsogon City.

Other featured activities for the festival which can be enjoyed by the Balik Sorsoganons include the Pilgrimage to Gibalong in Magallanes town which is reputed to be the site of the first mass in Luzon Island, the historico-cultural parade participated by all municipalities, heritage lectures by Sorsogon expert historical and cultural researchers and writers, a series of cultural presentations at the Capitol Park, an agro-industrial and trade fair showcasing Sorsogon’s handicrafts, and the inimitable Pantomina sa Tinampo, or dancing the Pantomina, the traditional Bikol love dance, in the streets of Sorsogon City.

SPTC chair Cecilia H. Duran, however, explained that the Balik Sorsoganons can come visiting at anytime during the year, especially during the festival months held in other towns of the province, such as the Pili Festival of Sorsogon City which coincides with its pastoral fiesta in honor of Sts. Peter and Paul, June 24-30; the Ginubat Festival of Gubat town, June 13; the Butanding Arribada Festival of Donsol, first week of March; the Padaraw Festival of Bulan, last week of May; Paroy Festival of Irosin, last week of September; and the Paraw Festival of Pilar, second week of October.

But, according to the SPTC chair, if the Balik Sorsoganons can come during the October Kasanggayahan Festival, they will not only be able to participate and enjoy the Festival but also join their relatives in the traditional family reunions during the Piyesta sa Gadan (All Souls’ Day) to commemorate their loved ones who have passed away.

The Balik Sorsogon Program, according to Mrs. Duran, is also covered by the overall Visit Philippines 2003 program of the Department of Tourism (DoT), which means, all balikbayans and visitors during the year will be able to avail of discounts in most tourism-oriented establishments in the country, such as hotels, restaurants, resorts, souvenir and service shops.

All they have to do, according to Ms. Duran is inform the SPTC in advance when they intend to come so that they can be received properly at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Legazpi City Airport where reception groups are stationed year-round.

For Balik Sorsoganons, the contact persons are Ms. Duran with e-mail address, ceciliahduran@yahoo.com, Reynaldo T. Jamoralin at toots528@hotmail.com, or they can visit the Sorsogon website at www.sorsogontourism.com. (SPTC)
