Many people want to show some sort of support for the troops but just don't really know how. I thought I would prvide some web sites that will help people show support for our troops.
1.) AAFES Gift Certificates
http://www.aafes.com/docs/homefront.htm
The Army and Air Force Exchange Services is where most servicemen and women do their shopping. You can purchase gift certificates for those in Iraq and those hospitalized.
2.) AnySoldier
http://anysoldier.com/index.cfm
Any Soldier is a non-profit organization that helps people send care packages to members of the armed services in Iraq.
3.) Books For Soldiers
http://www.booksforsoldiers.com/
Help the troops escape boredom by donating some books. You can also donate DVDs and CDs requested by soldiers.
4.) Cell Phones for Soldiers
http://www.cellphonesforsoldiers.com/pages/1/index.htm
Donated cell phones are recycled and turned into cash. The cash is used to purchase calling cards for soldiers in Iraq.
5.) Fisher House
http://www.fisherhouse.org/
The Fisher House Foundation donates comfort homes, built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one during hospitalization for an unexpected illness,
6.) Groceries for Families
http://www.commissaries.com/certificheck/
The men and women who lay down their lives for us are terribly underpaid. Help a family by purchasing gift certificates to the base commissary (grocery store).
7.) Operation: A Bit of Home
http://www.operationabitofhome.com/
Operation: A Bit of Home supports over 150 different soldiers per day by providing necessary and hard-to-get toiletries.
8.) Operation Gratitude
http://www.opgratitude.com
Operation Gratitude provides a way for you to show your respect and appreciation for the troops. It sends care packages and letters to troops stationed overseas.
9.) Operation Hero Miles
http://www.heromiles.org/
You can donate your unused frequent flier miles to help soldiers travel on emergency leave. They are also used to help families fly to hospitalized soldiers
10.) Operation Uplink
http://www.operationuplink.org/
Donate money to Operation Uplink. The money is used to purchase phone cards so servicemen and women can call home.
11.) US Central Command
http://www.centcom.mil
Find out what the Coalition is doing. U.S. Central Command features up-to-date information on Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom.
12.) Treats for Troops
http://www.treatsfortroops.com/
Treats for Troops helps get you provide packages to your loved ones overseas. If you don't know anyone, the Foster-A-Soldier Program matches you with a registered soldier by branch of service, home state, gender, or birthday - or you can choose to sponsor a group of soldiers.
13.) America supports you
http://www.americasupportsyou.mil/americas...syou/index.aspx
Hosted on a military domain.
14.) Support your troops
http://www.supportyourtroops.us/
15.) The USO home page.
http://www.uso.org/
The USO has been supporting troops since WWII (possibly earlier) and I, personally, have benefited directly from their support.
16.) Xerox--Let's say thanks.
http://www.letssaythanks.com/
Xerox will send a card to a service member with any message you want. There is not cost to you and the cards they send were designed by children.
17.) Gladiator, American style.
http://objflicks.com/GladiatorAmericanStyle.htm
These guys put together CDs with images and music. The images show what our troops are doing for their country and what they endure. If you decide to buy a CD, the procedes go to several support agencies, including The Wounded Warrior Project. (Even if you don't buy a CD, stop by and look at the video on their page.)
For those who have family in the service, the Air Force, Army and Navy/Marine Corps have relief aid organizations for troops. When my dad died in July of '04, the Air Force Aid Society paid for the plane tickets for my family and me to fly from Frankfurt to Portland, OR. It was a direct flight on short notice (I flew out the same day they bought the tickets). There would have been no way that I could have afforded those tickets, they were around $4,000 each (there are four of us). They not only paid for the tickets, but they didn't ask for me to pay them back. All three of the relief agencies listed here are non-profit and only get the money they use to help the troops through donations.
18.)Air Force Aid Society

19.)Army Emercency Relief
http://www.aerhq.org/
20.)Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society
http://www.nmcrs.org/
If you feel it in your heart to show your support for our troops, no matter how small that support is, maybe one of these web sites will be something that you can use.
