Subject: AtPO 2009 Gathering - Washington DC - Hotel Choice

Thanks for all of your replies. After doing final site visits, I have selected the Marriott Residence Inn – Bethesda.

Click on one of the following links to start the reservation process.

Residence Inn Bethesda - One King Bed ($109) - Group Code ATPATPA

Resisence Inn Bethesda - Two Queen Beds ($129)- Group Code ATPATPB

Ultimately, I selected this hotel for the following reasons:

  1. The Hotel is very nice - much nicer than other options inside the Beltway.
  2. All rooms are suites. Because of spaciousness, and sofa-beds, three people can comfortably share a "Two Queen Bed" room.
  3. Rooms also have usable kitchens and sizable sitting rooms - we would not need to go out for every meal and could hang together far more than we would in other locations.
  4. Free in-room High Speed internet & Free Hot Breakfast (which is very good, unlike the Hampton Inn breakfast which is not)

I recognize that this location will cost more than the Silver Spring location, but I feel the added cost ($10-15 per day pending doubles or single rooms, more expensive parking) is justified by the higher quality arrangements. The Bethesda are has many restaurants within walking distance, is very convenient to mass transit, and the suites will allow us to replicate some of the nicer aspects of the Tahoe/Vancouver experiences.

I will remind attendees to coordinate room sharing, as three people in a Res Inn QQ room is still far nicer than 2 in the Hampton Inn rooms..

I recognize that Silver Spring would be most convenient for those on a NYC-DC bus line, but believe arrangements can probably be made to shuttle bus travelers from the Silver Spring depot to the Bethesda Hotel.
