It is oddly nostalgic to see this message. For what it's worth, as strange as it was back then, I look back on the incident now with a certain fondness: a memorable thing happening that even six years later seems quite clear in my head. So although I'm still not quite sure about your arguments, I wish you all the best, as one prematurely middle-aged man to another...
