Heh, back at ya cjl. It's always good to see a classic ATPo poster, and with a classic post too.

I agree with you on Joss's view. Just to take an easy quote:

"Man (v.o): Maggie Walsh's vision… was brilliant, but ultimately unsupportable. The demons cannot be harnessed,
cannot be controlled."

That's true for Spike's internal panopticon (h/t manwitch), but it's all the more true for Buffy once she integrates her metaphorical heart, mind, and spirit (just as Echo integrates her personalities). Joss thinks it's hard, but he thinks it's doable.

I meant to add that Joss is also satirizing Hollywood and himself in all this. After all, writers and directors control their characters, forcing them into a storyline they themselves didn't choose. It's telling that in Epitaph One Joss's signature phrase -- "give them what they need, not what they want" -- gets repeated twice.
