Certainly a more thoughtful and sympathetic approach after the rampant 25th century shinanigins of last week but it was too close to Stargate territory to be distinctively a Torchwood plot I thought. An interesting comment on the theme of 'alienation' but not entirely absorbing because of the lack of development of the Beth character. The writers have generated little sympathy for her before we are expected to wrestle with the choices both she and the team face.

We're back to my feeling that single episode plotlines are difficult to make work satisfactorily; particularly in the abscence of much in the way of humour. The episode as a whole was quite polished but I found it didn't carry forward the impetus that was generated by the romp of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang.
