Subject: AtPO 2009 Gathering - Washington DC

Have been doing preliminary review of 2009 DC Area Gathering Options.

Earlier polls indicated people preferred to hold the gathering over the final weekend of June, 2009. Therefore, I have looked to book for the dates:

From: Thurs June 25
To: Monday June 29

Topic:

The Challenge I have to narrowing down locations in the DC Metro Area is Price & Nature of the Experience.

If we are a small group, and we mostly want to hang out (a la Tahoe & Vancouver 08) I can get us rooms in a comparably inexepensive suburban hotel that has regular rooms + at least one big suite with a full kitchen, multiple rooms, and quality A/V setup. That'll work, if we want to watch DVDs all night, and maybe go downtown during the days for touristy things. Getting downtown is doable, but will not be super-convenient or easy.

If we want something more like NYC or Toronto, where we are situated more in a City-like setting, where we can walk to a large selection of restaurants and have easy access to the downtown corridor - that may be a bit more expensive, we will give up the kitchen experience. and will need to rent a meeting room. (The Marriott Residence Inns failed my A/V Test) This is the better option if we think there is going to be a significantly large group, and if people want to go out a lot.

I tried to get us the best of both, but this is not very tenable. People with preferences should please reply and let me know.
