This is without doubt the best one-off I've seen to date; the villian is superb from beginning to end and the plot is largely self-contained whilst allowing some over-arching season development details to be included. Primarily I think the difference is that the script amply fills the time allowed without there being a sense of over-compression. The dialogue is quite abundant but not to the exclusion of action and the effects are suitably scary, nightmarish would not be over-stating it. David Tennant is superb as ever and there are some self-referencing and pop culture remarks in his dialogue which made me laugh out loud. Mark Gatiss and Freema Agyeman provide great support as foils for the Doctor on those rare occasions when he's not actually talking to himself (figuratively or actually) and all in all...

Brilliant.
