I had suggested this in a previous posting, that the first ubervamp was in effect the groosalugg of the Turok-Han but after I thought about it a bit it really didn't seem to make sense as Giles had previously said that the Turok-Han were the vampires that normal vampires feared. Perhaps the coasting idea works - the ubervamps had become fat, dumb and happy and only a few still followed the old ways. Regardless, these attempts at explanation are complete fan wanks as there was nothing in the text to explain the discrepancy in the fighting abilities. In that sense, the writers are still guilty of an enormous inconsistency, not that I am all that bothered by it.
