That seems entirely reasonable and not really speculative. Who doesn't have good and bad days in our normal activities? I myself participated in fairly vigorous bicycle riding and there were days when I was on fire and days when I was dragging and I attributed the difference to both physical (lack of sleep etc) and emotional. I guess Buffy was just really, really, really lucky that she was never having one of those down days when she was ambushed by multiple vampires. Or maybe the really tough vamps were lone wolves(?) and only the pansy assed vampires ran in packs.
