I don't believe we ever saw Willow hack for the sake of hacking. Every time we actually saw her, she was acting for Buffy

But also, we have S1 Willow telling Cordelia that she can use the "Del" key to "Deliver" her project to a teacher... Willow's motivation was largely good, but she wasn't pure, even from the beginning. And I thought that Willow's use of technology and of magic were fundamentally from the same headspace the whole time.
