Happens to be precisely in regards to questions like "What is Joss saying," or "What is Mutant Enemy saying." One of the biggest pet peeves for me is when people attempt to extrapolate what the authors' or creators' positions on certain political or social issues are, but do so through completely ignoring the referents of the metaphors that are so adeptly and deliberately used. Furthermore, such comments usually depend on a snapshot, such as, Oh this happened in Tabula Rasa, to try to show what the opinion of the author must have been, when this particular art form MUST be measured in time. What happens as a RESULT of that action, and the referent of that, since it is probably also metaphorical at some level, is what tells you the opinion of the author.

"You" of course, not being Sophist specifically, who I know is well aware of this, but a general "you," referring to any reader of lit.
