Subject: a6.16 "RISE", rising-not yet risen (me I mean)

Hey.
(Sorry, can't resist--it's what Angel's main greeting phrase)

Hi Masq (et al),

Don't miss the "Fillyria" name suggest for "Illyria"/"Fred" way below.

It still seems I can't write a short anything. I (may) just email this to ya instead of posting (or not). The real cause is this text file sitting here and add to it; it just keeps growing & growing (and becoming schizophrenic-the letter, not me, disconnected). But really, I like it! I wonder... was Lilah buried in that cemetary also?

I printed a copy of "Rise", probably just moments after it was posted 30-Sept, or so I like to think. I have been savoring it, thus far, but have completed a good portion of it. I thought I would give a comment before going on to the end.

Oh, the savoring, I've also been distracted with all the Battlestars, Adama's, & Olmos' issues. I mean, did the "Mustard" come off the "Hot Dog" on New Caprica? Frak! (Pilot on BSG codenamed "Hotdog" is played by GOD, er, Edward James Olmos' son Bodie Olmos.

Even though Sci-Fi is probably the best at television presentation, still the cable company I have inserts commercials that don't balance the shape (resolution), color balance (and they do "active" scanning to adjust, so the better to spy). Also sound of the inserted commercials of Time/Warner vs. Sci-Fi don't match, much too loud). Nothing new here, just saying Sci-Fi does the "best" job, and that is even hard to deal with.

On Battlestar Galactica's new Season 3 (first two episodes just aired together as a two-hour show), spoiler here. But after initial doubt I think I see a good reason for the "leap" of time into the future (Season 2 final left them a year more than a year in the future & S3's extend that even further [months]). Its a good way to deal with the age of the cast, well, ageing. It's been perhaps 2-2.5 years in Frak-Time since Earth was nuked in the "Mini-Series", but first aired in 1993 (or so).

A second (side) comment: the final airing of Buffy/Angel pilots on WB network. The Angel I viewed was reduced in resolution, forced badly to a 4x3 format. I was ready to be embittered, but then I remembered I never un-embittered. The Buffy "Welcome To The Hellmouth"/"The Harvest", not to mention the original leader teaser intro they played "Introducing Joss Whedon's Buffy the Vampire Slayer" that was made by WB, the whole thing was breathtaking. Still embittered me more, as that just shows what can be done when "they" want. ("all dark", "all dark", "time", "time"… - crazy people o' glory in Buffy season five).

SPOILER POTENTIAL, WARNING!

WARNING THIS IS A PLOT COMPLICATION! WARNING THIS IS A PLOT COMPLICATION! Plot complication coming on screen now, Captain, I'm switching to visual.

About the X-Scoobies' new Angel Season Six new episode… (Can I call you guys just "Ex-S"? never mind)

6.17 "RISE"

I paused my reading at Spike's joke in the third act. ("Passions is on!" - am not spoiling, per se, folks). But that had me dying, even though it was an major obvious telegraph. I thought Spike was going to say something about Angel just asking him to help investigate ("Yeah check out my crack investigation staff"). The obvious telegraph that I mention is Spike chair lounging with a small one, just like his crypt.

By the way, Spike NOT saying "Passions is on", that's the funny part. Ka pish?

Noticed the last page "credits" fails to credit Faith or Wesley. On Faith & Wesley, I take exception to the first thing you had Wesley say to Faith, or just saying out loud about her being one of his greatest failures. What about Orpheus?

And surely [or Shirley], Wes found out what happened in Sunnydale after Spike came back in L.A., and after learning that Angel hadn't told them the whole truth. Wesley should have been shown doing this in Angel S5, researching what happened in Sunnydale. A nice way to show off his new magic book templates, and also would have been a good foreshadow to what he did later with Illyria, Connor, Angel's deal with W&G, and Cyrys Vail's memory reconstruction.

Point being, Wesley wouldn't have considered Faith his Failure. Indeed, in start of "Rise"'s third act, with Faith & Wesley confronting the one-good building. Where the demon asks "Who is he?" and Faith yells "The Justice of the Peace" (a wedding was supposed to be happening). A better interjection by Wesley following that might have been: "Actually, I'm her Watcher", which brings a quick look, then a big smile from Faith. Faith good then so saying about how more-in-trouble they are in now, as he's not just watching my back, he can…", Wes interrupts lowering the cross-bow and forming a fire-ball in his hand (a la the Wizard he has become, maybe realizing much of Vail's power is now his)…

I also take great wonder that, deep into the third act, Wesley hasn't said the word "Fred" or "Illyria" at all yet. Even though Faith did a quick retreat about seeing "Dead People walking around", meaning Fred/Illyria but switching that to the First Evil…

I'm also question having Illyria make a new demon Qwa'Ha-Xahn and a new demon army (or desire so), i.e., a mere 10's of millennia revert… Don't know what's "gonna" happen, but a really angry Fred (at Illyria), and having Illyria realize that they are really one person now, and they can't survive separately. Having Illyria be the smart, calm one and helping Fred that way might have be a great way to go. (Illyria purposing that Fred would need to figure out how to re-unite them).

Shouldn't Illyria have wondered quietly to herself about if her new Qwa'Ha-Xahn is tall enough?

Oooo! Oooo! (I added this tallness comment last, and I think I just figured out something!). Look for "Ooooo Ooooo" at very end of this…

At that moment, in walks Wesley who already knows what to do and does it. (He makes her an Über-Fred, can be 4 personas: Illyria, Fred, Illyria-as-Fred, Fred-as-Illyria). Or maybe Wes knows how to contact "Mayor Wilkins/The First" and get another of those gadgets he gave to Faith in Buffy 4.15 "Who the Frak Are you?"

My hope/I think… Drusilla wakes up, or maybe Wesley heals (ensoul?) her, as he's fixing F. Illyria Burkle (oh god, "Fillyria").

Wesley healing Dru (ensouling) instructions may have came to him in the grave, a la, the previous PTB-ers in-the-sky: Cordelia, Doyle, Whistler, maybe toss in Gypsy Uncle Kalderash or the wrinkly elder woman… The purpose being to make Angel a new PTB vision guide, so they all can "get back to work" and not let the demons run amok-amok-amok (Disney's "Hocus Pocus"). Wes also was told (Doyle?) that Dru has a mission for him immediately.

And she gets a sight of the Wizard's Council and the plans to Roll back everything…

A Spike joke the end, after they discuss the memory/reality restructuring that Michael and his gang o' buggered plans, filling in the about "Father"/"Sons"…

Somebody asks Angel: "How can they stop such a thing?"
Angel muses quietly, "All this has happened before. All this will happen again". This pisses off Spike
Spike: "Oh reat, Captain Forehead & his cryptic memory blogging is back. I HATE temporal paradoxes, especially in the morning. They give me such a headache". [Dru coos to spike at the word headache, a la Buffy S2]

Note: Spike learned the word "blog" from his nephew Connor, he starts to tell Dru this, but then realizes that she can be Connor's "Auntie Dru" now, which makes Dru giggle].

Angel [pissed]: "He's not your Uncle! And you don't go out in the morning, you Bit!"
Spike: "Did you just call me a 'Bit'?"

[Oh Well, this I enjoy doing. Supposing… and yes I know I've ignored Michael's Dragon's Stone & Mike's mum. And what about the senior Burkles in Texas…?

Cya & S'long…!
Michael, San Diego

I don't know if you plan/hope for the finish of these episodes (a "full" season of 22?).

An idea for the rest of the episodes (or next)… Use something like the "Wikepedia" edit-able encyclopedia, or even Wiki-Space for making tree episodes that people can edit, change, add-on, etc. A way of voting/promoting would be needed, so can finalize things. But shouldn't ever really "Freeze", i.e. you never know what might happen…

North Korea could suddenly test a nuclear weapon (they tested one under ground? How compliant! Never knew they had that in them…or does smell fishy to anyone else? Seems to me, an above-ground nuclear explosion would more intimidating & effective… World's forgot what an above ground nuke is like/fear [1950's, No-Bikini-Atoll?]. We didn't even have the color super slow-mo's we have now (if we still have them, a la, Nasa's Saturn V rocket lift-off's).

Ooooo Ooooo:
Looking in Rise for what "COSTUMED DEMON" was, i.e. who or what "Fillyria's" new Q-boy may mean, I noticed that Illyria was sayingt that "…I have gathered sorcerers, etc" comment". And then you do Joss-like switch ("cut" is the director-pfoophter word?) a "cut" to Michael's Boyz-to-Wizzes dudes. I bet that is why Michael was acting weird concerning his "mum" -- waiting for "her" to go up the stairs. It was actually Illyria posing as his mum. Maybe you'll say it Illyria herself that got Michael's daughter back via dimensionally shifting time.

I think I'll take look back to "FATHERS"/"SONS" before going on with "RISE". I still don't get that Shakesphere episode you guys did, and that is central to how Illyria/Fred got split in half, so to speak... William the bloody Shakesphere?
