He didn't mention it because he didn't want to admit that he was late pushing the button because he was killing the other guy in a fight. Anyway, he wasn't sure whether the shaking was really significant until he realized the coincidence that the Oceanic flight crashed at the same time.

I suppose Desmond didn't go out because he might have been afraid of the Others (was he ever briefed about the Others?).

Anyway, the next question is why is Desmond apparently seeing the future now since he got blown up with the hatch and miraculously survived? TBD
