She told me she had seen a commercial for a new show, but it looked like it might be too scary (she was 8). She asked me if I would watch it with her in case it got scary. I don't remember now why she asked me rather than my wife. Possibly my wife was out of town or maybe it was just one of those "if it's Tuesday I want Daddy" things kids do.

I had no idea what the show was about, but agreed (hiding my annoyance at having to watch TV). I figured I would watch it once, she would like it or not, and that would be it. Of course, I had to watch twice because the opener is a two-parter, but it was good enough for me to keep watching with her. It became a father-daughter thing for us. Later, as I said, my wife and older daughter started watching also.
