I would say at least 1 active and at least 2 destroyed.

Kendra fought elsewhere, came to Sunnydale, left again and came back to where the severity of "Hellmouthyness" was highest.

I'd say 1 active in the US and possibly more in different countries.

Travers comment was strictly to the point of the topic - the need to invoke more would seem indifferent to the problem at hand.

Something else - was the Hellmouth phenomena strictly linked with, or coincided with, Buffys existence?

If not, wouldn't all Slayers be drawn by its {or their} existance. Faith, however, seemed only to come to Sunnydale to get help with Kakistos not necessarily to come to a Hellmouth.

Maybe Hellmouths activate like a tide or a sinewave. Naturally moving from active to inactive until finally being destroyed. Each one (at least 2) riding on the same tide in and out. Only chance, the Council, compelling evil or convenience brings a Slayer there.

Since the Council was in England we might assume there is or was a Hellmouth there, or nearby, currently or in the past.


Also, by the looks of the Boxer Rebellion during Spikes showdown with the Chinese Slayer, it would make sense that there may have been one there too.

So,

2 destroyed - Sunnydale and England or close by
1 active - Cleveland (maybe a 2nd in China)
