If Angel were dead, it would be rather pointless. In that case, I'm not sure they'd bother.
I think they would bother because that’s just the kind of un-people they were, vindictive, and as a lesson to others as to what happens when you screw with the SP’s. As the Gypsies pointed out in season two of Buffy, vengeance has a life of it’s own. I think they would have retaliated and perhaps sent Connor’s dismembered head on a tour of the other dimensions (The 2004 “Look at poor headless Connor” World tour) with perhaps Black Sabbath as the opening act.
