I loved the Shannon story. She started out as a complete rich bitch but we slowly began to see that there was more to Shannon (isn’t there always more to people than we initially see). I guess the death of Boone and her budding interest in Sayid were a turning points but to me it was her relationship with Vincent that made me care for her. Okay, I am a sucker for a good dog story but when Vincent ran off and she panicked, she said something to the effect: “Walt asked me to take care of the dog. Nobody has ever asked me to take care of anything. I will not tell him that I lost his dog”. Shannon had never had the trust of anyone; no one had ever expected anything from her and she had lived down to their expectations. She so much wanted to be somebody, its just that she was never asked. Walt was the first person that trusted Shannon with something of utmost importance, his dog. I think even more than Sayid, Walt saved Shannon. Of course, this was all before the abandonment issues surfaced but I think it is one and the same; nobody needed her, nobody trusted her, nobody loved her. The rich bitch dies a sympathetic and loved character (of course, any show that is capable of taking an interrogator in the Republican Guard and turning them into a sympathetic character in the current political climate in the US is probably capable of doing most anything).
