I went to see this on opening day, only at 2:30 in the afternoon in Spencer, Iowa. I shared the theatre with only one other person. She sat in the row behind me and about 10 over, moving to about 5 over after we got to talking during the previews.

The theatre in this small Iowa town had just begun to have Friday matinees in November, and, apparently, the word had not got out. Aeon Flux had the biggest attendance of any film at the theatre.

I knew absolutely nothing about it and had read no rumors nor any reviews. I bought Monster awhile ago in a video store as the third DVD on a 3-for-$20 deal. Charlize Theron has tremendous acting range in Monster and even more in this film.

Watching the film seemed to me like a run-thru of my own imagination when reading an odd story in Astounding.

Martin Csokas did spectacularly well playing a character the viewer was unsure about -- villain/not villain. He did NOT chew the scenary, and so, the reviewers didn't get it.

Remember, just as 90% of Science Fiction is crap, so are 90% of movie reviews. Heck, I read a favorable review of Serenity, and yet found the review sloppy and evidence of misunderstanding.

The Francis McDormand parts of the film setup a religious/political statement but then there was no follow-through. I may have to buy the DVD to see if there was a deleted scene. I suspect/hope there was. Otherwise, there was a lot of bizarre high pooh-bahness for nothing.

I really felt I had seen something mentally challenging and even noetic. Go see this film, those of you who liked Borias on Xena or 1930s SciFi.
