It's possible you reflected back on previous seasons in light of S6. Nothing inherently wrong in that; we all do it and it's often a source of insight. I just don't think it is in this particular case; I think the writers tried to fudge Willow's guilt in order to make her rehabilitatable (if that's a word). This was just a bad decision on several levels.

I happen to like parts of S6 very much, just not this part. I'd rather see manwitch's suggestion. Well, that and more sex scenes.

I consider BtVS a very moral and sophisticated show and the idea of actions having consequences seemed very pervasive. Often the consequences did not manifest in the same episode as the action, sometimes not even in the same season, but it seemed so refreshing from the normal TV that I internalized it as one of the prime directives of the Buffyverse.

I very much agree with this. Obviously, however, not ALL actions can have meaningful consequences, and magic was one of those which generally didn't outside of S6.
