I would put Grant and perhaps even Sherman up there.

Lee obviously did some things very well and was able to draw the thing out and spank superior union forces a number of times, but as sophist points out he went up against a lot of 2-5 teams.

And I agree with sophist that Lee occasionally made some horrendous choices and was not in a position to do so. Obsessing over Harpers Ferry when DC lay open seems to me to have been a major mistake, but maybe I'm missing something. Lovely place, though, Harpers Ferry.

At any rate, would you argue that when it became apparent to Lee that he could not be successful either he had a moral obligation to cease or it became immoral for him to continue? Just curious. Or do you think his own internally held moral values dictated that he take a particular stand even though he might fail? I mean, ultimately he gave up and all, but in moral terms, should he have fought on as long as he did or might he have been better suited (morally) by quitting earlier and saving his people immense suffering?
