This is getting out of hand, we have been so totally OT for so long now that its getting embarrasing. There have been so many wars that the topic is virtually inexhaustable, particularly when you start bringing in new conflicts for a new world, so in the spirit of your last post and despite my own unrelenting interest I feel it is time for me to 'play last post' on this sub-thread.

The Germans dropped a stick of bombs on London by accident, the British retaliated with a full scale raid on Berlin. Hitler went berserk and switched his attacks from airfields to London (the blitz). Whilst this was to the advantage of the British in fact all was not as desperate as it might have seemed as individual squadrons and their support had been dispersed to local flying clubs rather than gathered at airfields and were thus far harder to locate, let alone attack to any effect.

If you want to delude yourself as concerns the true nature of the American Revolutionary War that is up to you. The war was opposed in parliament for precisely the reasons given for its conduct by the rebellious colonials and this I believe is the real reason for Cornwallace's failure to prosecute the war effectively in mass actions. In broader terms it is not possible to hold territory against the will of the inhabitants for any prolonged period of time* as the populace will resist and start to fight guerilla actions, melting away to their homes when persued (you should have learnt that by now) and so the British position in what became the USA was untenable.

*Unless you annihilate the civilian population, hmmmm, tempting.
