It was the Spring of the Laughing Brook, an evil wildcat, called Grondblade the Black, and his army of one-hundred vermin(20 ferrets, 20weasils, 10 stoats, and 40pine martins)has put Redwall under seige! Somehow, they poisoned Ma Mellus. She has had dreams of defeat. tangle sent out some DAB spys and they herd two pine martens talking, this is what they said,"Three days from 'ere Lord Grondblade says our tunnel will be completed.'E said that an hour before dawn we'll attack."
"Attack? You mean conquer the red house?" said the scond one
"Yes!"
Inside the DAB hideout there was total confiusion when the spy told all the dibbuns what they had heard.
"Order!Come on everyone calm down!"Tanle yelled."how are we supposed to help the abbey if we're all going crazy? Inbar, you've had expirience with long journeys for help. You must go either to Salamandastron or the north lands to get help and remember be quick we onle have three days."
"Me?" I asked," I've only been on one long journey for help."
"yes you," Tangle replied.
"Alright I'll go."
I emediatly went to my dorm and rumaging under my bed, found my mail armor, sword, and my special bow. I put on the armor, belted on my sword, put my cloak on over it and then taking my bow with me snuck down into the kithchen.taking a pack, I filled it with bread, cheese, a flask of October Ale, and a flask of straw berry cordial. Then I snuck out the east wall gate and went out into Mossflower Woods. "Hmmm, should I go to Salamandastron or to the north lands." I thought." If I go north I have the cover of the trees, if I go south In know the way.But there is the problem of the lizards. I'll go north."I decided. Then, silently and swiftly, I skittered through Mossflower Woods. Once I though I was far enough away from Redwall I walked onto the path. It was almost noon when I reached the ford. A fat female stoat stepped out of the bushes and brandished a rusty spear saying fiercely," stay back or pay the toll to cross my ford."
"Your ford?! This ford belongs to nobeast and all can pass freely, Including me," I said rather angrily.
"Ermie," the stout called. out waddled a nother stoat twice as fat as the first,it had a large club.
"This snoty proud baby thinks he can pass without pay in the toll."
"Oh,does he? Well you can't,"the second stoat said.
Having been insulted enough I drew my sword with the diamond in its pommel and attacked. This caught them by surprize, before they could react I had broken the first stoat's spear in half and was at the second one's club.the club broke when the stoat swung it at me. The part of the club that had broken spunn through the air and hit the other stoat in the nose.
"What'd you do that for?"yelled the stoat as she charged at the other stoat. they began fighting and almost forgot about me. When one of them remembered me it was too late for I was already half-way across the stream, paddle ing a log with my paws. After I crossed the stream I walked on until I could nolonger hear the moanig stoats and had a well-deserved lunch. I eat rested and then continued walking at a steady pace. That night I made camp beneath the otter and his wife. the morning was cold and misty and the sun had just risen when I woke up. I had a quick breakfast of bread and cheese then I was off again, walking north. The mist cleared slowly and by ten I could see open tundra ahead. At noon I was out in the open plain. there was little to see, every thing was flat except for some mountains which rose up in the distance. Dumbell had told me that the wolves lived in those mountains. I quickened my pace after lunch and with a burst of new energy was soon within two miles of them. At mid afternoon I reached the mountains edge and started theupward climb into the mountains. A stream flowed across the trail that I was taking, I stoped to drink and then crossed it. Just after I had crossed the stream a big wolf with gray fur jumped out on th path infront of me. "Grrr, woof! You are entering wolf teritory what do you want here, grrr," growled the wolf.
"I have come to ask your king for help, please take me to him,"I answered.
"Grrrrr, take you to him I shall and quickly I shall do it,"the wolf replied," Come on my back I you wish swift travel."
"That I do sir,"I said as I climbed onto his back.
He ran with awing speed and we soon came to a tower of marble.
"this is the great wolf kings tower. I will take you to him," the wolf said.
The tower was beutifull there was a single stair case going up in the center of the tower wolves were walking up and down them talking together and some times turning to open a door and enter a side room. the wolf I was riding bounded up the stairs and into a hall that spiraled upward until it stoped a two great doors.
"Grrrr, I have come with one for the king,"the wolf said to the guards. They opned the doors and let him through. He told me to dismount and walk along side him. The Wolf King was a huge white wolf. He sat on a throne carved from a giant sapphire.
"What is it my son that you have come so early?"the King asked.
"father this is a beast from the south who has come for you,"the wolf replied.
"what is it you want young one?"the wolf king asked.
"My friends, family and all the creatures at Redwall Abbey need your help sir,"I said, then told him of our plight.
"So, you need help to come, but in only eight hours. It is so?" the king asked.
"yes sir it is so," I replied.
"Then because you are goodbeast and because you asked for help we will do it it is so."the king said then he walked to the window ond howled," All wolves prepare to march! Meet here!"
Five minutes later a crowd of two-hundred wolves gathered at the base of the tower. the king, his son, and I desended the stiars to the bottom of the tower after a breif explanation of where we were going and what we would do the wolf king said," Come climb on my back, we have far to go and short time to get there."
Then everthing blured as the wolves started runing It took only minutes to reach the border of the wolf kingdom, the wolves took a quick drink then we were off again. the land became a blur. Within an hour we were just a mile from the wood. then, minutes later, we were in it. racing along the path two hours three hours later we stopped for a quick rest. Then off we were again. three hours later we stoped at the ford of the River Moss. the wolves splashed through. I barely saw the two stoats skitter under bushes as we passed. We emedeatly began to slow down as we approached Redwall. The king gave the silent order to split into four groups each one had fifty wolves in it. Each group went to one of the gates. Then I herd the sounds of battle from inside of Redwall. Were we to late? Had the vermin already captured Redwall? These thoughts and meny others raced through my head. I told the wolf king that we must charge or it will be to late. As we entered the abbey the king let out a great curdling howl.At that signalthe othere wolves charged in. The battle was truly fierce the vermin seeing the gates closed and guarded saw that there was no eascape except for surnder or victory this made them fight even harder. I got thrown off the back of the wolf king when he went into combat with Grondblade the Black. I fought for some time then after tripping over fallen staffs droped by Redwall defders left the fray. then half an hour later we won! Grondblade the Black was Defeated!
