“Lekeila returned yesterday, she had been spying on those squirrels that showed up the other day. She say’s that they are very suspicious. Well, I honestly would prefer to pass the writing on to her, because I dislike writing.”

“Those squirrels have a very peculiar air about them, they seem rather fishy if you ask me. I was with them nearly all day, and they never once said anything to me. It’s almost as if they are afraid of me, if anyone gets too close to any one of them they skitter away, and the strangest thing is: they won’t smile!
I don’t think that they’re actually bad, but I think they are up to something, they sneak around a lot and all seven of them seem very on-edge. I just don’t get it!”

“As you may know, I have connections with the kitchen,(Names have been left out to protect the naughty.) So I was munching on a delicious whortleberry pie while I was watching those squirrels. I managed to get the one they call Rose-maria to talk to me. She seemed almost as if she was dying to tell me something, but couldn’t. I think I have sort of earned the squirrel maids trust. I’ll go talk with her again, and Zotchy will tell you of anything he has found.”

“Oh great, the pen is in my care once again! Oh well. Anyway, I was just in the room which one of the squirrels is staying in. I found a small dagger, but I don’t think it really matters right now. I think that Lek has something of more importance.”

“Leiky obviously hasn’t figured out anything yet, but Rose-Maria has given Tiltz a certain something. It’s a note, but the writing is very strange. I’m going to take it up to my Great-Uncle, maybe he knows what it all means. Meanwhile, I’m going to pass the writing one to Tiltainzia.”

“It has been three hours since Tiltzie’s report, and my Great-Uncle Walden has figured out the code. It’s so simple! The words were just written upside-down, and backwards. Here’s what the note said:”
“I hope you decipher this in time, you have to help us! We have just escaped from a horrible weasel who was going to sell us into slavery. We came here for refuge because it was the first place we came to, the weasel may even now be searching for us. He is very cunning, and he may find us within days! We apologize for any danger we may have put you and your friends in by coming here. I was forbidden to tell anyone for fear you would turn us away, but I had to warn you! Please, help us.

“Well, we will certainly not send Rose-Maria and the rest away if I have anything to do with it. I haven’t figured anything out, except........ Never mind I’m confused, let me think about this awhile, here’s Tilt.”

“The weasel Rose-Maria wrote of showed up a short while ago, but the abbot told him he would have to leave. You should have seen the look on that worm’s face! He slunk away, but I think he might return. Meanwhile Rose-Maria, Pineswallow, Cliptod, Ferrel, Derkin, Leafhopsie, and Mink-lin are safe. They will start on their way home tomorrow. I am very glad we were able to help them.”

“Once again I am amazed by the dibbuns here at Redwall Abbey. The squirrels have left us without any harm befalling anyone. Although I fear we may have a few troubles ahead concerning that weasel, everything has returned to normal here. If there is any ‘normal’ for Redwall to return to that is.”

“It has been three days since the squirrels left, that weasel has returned as we feared he would. Only this time he has a whole group of weasels with him!”
