Subject: R.A.W. Recap From Sunday

This will NOT be as detailed as my recaps of old. I`ll be honest about this. Yesterday, I posted that there was nothing really bad about this show. But watching an entire card of average to below average matches leaves you with little passion to recap.
The referee for the evening was James Ash, whom I`m certain was once a regular in attendance at previous GPW/RAW shows.

NOTE: Match times are timed from first contact to the end of the match.

FIRST MATCH: Chi Chi Cruz vs. ????
I don`t remember a lot about this match. Cruz`s opponent was billed as "making his professional debut" which is obviously inaccurate if the same card was used elsewhere. He was quite the lightweight. His face was painted, he very much had a Vampiro look going.
Unfortunately, Chi Chi himself seems to have put on some weight during the offseason. It`s not really surprising to see that, I`m sure he`ll be worked into shape during the tour.
Anyway, this was pretty much a standard squash. Chi Chi hasn`t lost his quick wit. Someone in the audience said, "Fight someone your own size!" Cruz promptly responded, "Tell them to give me someone my own size!"
I could just sense a heel turn coming from watching this match (I hadn`t read Cathy`s match lineup before, so I figured it out myself! :))
RESULT: Chi Chi Cruz by pinfall at 5:40

SECOND MATCH: Duke MacIssac vs Scott Savage
Of the returning guys, Duke seems to be the one that had the best off-season, he seems to have really trimmed down. Much of his beard has been trimmed down also. He was sporting a lean look.
Much like the newcomer in the first match, Savage doesn`t offer much weight. He is somewhat physically similar to X-Pac. He was moderately successful in getting the crowd to chant "skirt" at Duke.
It should be noted that Duke has his own t-shirt now.
I don`t remember a lot about this match, but Duke debuted a nice finishing move.
RESULT: Duke MacIssac by pinfall at 9:36

THIRD MATCH: Jonny Wiseguy (w/Rachel) vs. Wildman Gary Williams
Rachel`s character is pretty much a blatant ripoff of Ms. Hancock, she had the book with her and everything. It was refreshing to see a manager though, and she ran some interference during the match. She has the looks to pull if off as well, although I think the glasses are TOO thick (but they are needed for the ripoff character!)
I fully expected to see Cathy come down during this match for the wild catfight!
During the match, myself & a few others chanted "Brooklyn Brawler" whom Wiseguy somewhat resembles.
Williams, like Cruz has put on some weight during the off-season.
Again, I remember little about this match- Wiseguy comes from the "Eddy Watts school of wrestling": lots of stalling!
Of course, the big angle in this match is Chi Chi Cruz coming out to help Wiseguy, in a shocking heel turn!
(I knew something was up with Williams was in the 3rd match of the card- Williams and Cruz are the only two main eventers left from last year, so I figured that they had to get in there again somewhere).
RESULT: Johnny Wiseguy by pinfall at 10:52
(It should be noted that after initial contact was made it was followed by at least a minute of stalling by Wiseguy! I love old fashioned heel heat!)

FOURTH MATCH: Eddie Watts vs. Madman Williams
Madman Williams is billed as being from Edmonton, but perhaps he should be billed as being from the more southern Alberta big city, as his mustache makes him look like Lanny MacDonald.
As is usually the case in North Sydney, Watts has his fair share of support, and scorn. He gets both heel/face heat. Myself and friends popped for the "HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY" after every two count.
Sadly enough, I`m not entirely sure of the result- I think Madman Williams won this one though. (This is what sucks about waiting a day to do a show recap!) Watts tried to use his paddle, but it backfired- I can`t remember if Chi Chi was involved in this finish or not, he did come out after the match.
RESULT: Madman Williams by pinfall (?) at 13:06
After the match, Wildman cuts a promo, asking "Why, Chi Chi Why" and saying that he is sick of Watts`s screwing around. We learn that the two Williams`s are brothers, at least in character anyway.
Chi Chi does a mocking, "Why Chi Chi Why" He also said something about "Dingleberry wine" and repeated the exact same opening to a promo he`d do later in the show.
Anyway, this angle set up a tag match for later between the two teams.

At this point there was an intermission.

FIFTH MATCH: Aaron Idol vs. Sweet Daddy Devastation
This was the first match of the night that did not feature a returnee. Idol portrays a character like a depressed teenager- his look reminds me of Daniel Johns in early silverchair videos.
Both men took the time to cut promos prior to the match. Unfortunately, the crowd took to saying "What" during Idol`s. Idol had what I could describe as "meek" mikework. Imagine someone saying "Shut up" in the most forced manner possible and you can imagine his promo. He trashed North Sydney, and also said, "Morons say..." and everyone STILL said "What?"
Devastation`s promo consisted of him saying "Sweet" on several occasions. He said something about North Sydney being a sweet town (he must be delusional). Devastation is a bigger guy, I guess you could say he has a Hugh Morrus type build.
It should be noted that both competitors have their own t-shirts (which is kind of funny when you think that they would be sold during the intermission, before anyone had had the chance to seem them wrestle.)
Also, it should be noted that Devastation got a bit of a pop from some people on our side of the ring because he came out to the A-Team theme.
I don`t remember much about this match except when Devastation got chopped he said, "Oh my sweet chest!"
I honestly don`t remember who won this match. I`m pretty sure it was a clean finish, and it wrapped up at 7:00.

SIXTH MATCH: Chi Chi Cruz & Eddie Watts vs. Wildman Williams & Madman Williams
This match didn`t seem to suffer any ill effects from all the workers having worked earlier, as it got off to a fast start. However, I don`t remember a lot about it, except for the fact that the heels went over.
RESULT: Cruz/Watts by pinfall at 7:52
After the match, Wildman cut a promo, saying that he is originally from Moncton, and talking about the toughness of Maritimers. He challenged them to a Maritime Street Fight, falls count anywhere. This challenge was accepted by the heels for the next show in North Sydney.
Chi Chi told Wildman to think about why he turned on him, saying "You know why". This led to a hilarious exchange between Chi Chi and a friend of mine.

Cruz, to Williams: "You know why!"
Friend: "I don`t know why!"
Cruz: "You`re going to find out!"
Hilarious stuff.

On the whole, it was a hard show to get excited about. It seems like RAW is going to have go through some re-growing pains. They don`t have enough star returnees to make a sold main event scene- Cruz & Williams don`t appear to up to last year`s form either. Watts is a decent addition to the main event scene, but Madman main eventing seems to be too fast.
A lot of the workers seem to have potential, so it should be good to see them improve over the course of the year.
