Subject: 08/02/01 North Sydney RAW Results

On the heels of the hot angle two weeks ago, RAW further settles into its 7:30 timeslot (now we actually know it`s 7:30!)

The show starts with, what else, a Cardinal Sinner promo. Acadian Giant is absent from the proceedings (no Nasty Nat either). "Kowboy" Mike Hughes gives us a rundown of what happened in Halifax, telling us that he`s the new champion (no mention of Buddy Lane as the commissioner).
Chi Chi Cruz (minus knee brace) and Wildman Gary Williams come out. Cruz is sporting his new t-shirt. On the front it has a south park drawing of Chi Chi and on the back the phrase, "Prepare to be CRUZified." (Or something close to that).
Cruz says that Hughes didn`t beat him for the title. He says that the Sinners tried to end his career two weeks ago in North Sydney. His promo sets up a rematch (Cruz/Williams vs. Hughes/Bobby Rude), but this time it`s a table match!

First Match: Corporal Chaos vs. Custom Made Man
CMM actually uses a song that I`ve heard him come out to before (the one he used in Whycogomagh, don`t know the name of it).
CMM didn`t get a pop upon coming out, but he did from one section of the arena. It was strange.
This match, at its beginning, didn`t look like your typical Chaos match. I think he actually got off a move of sorts, and carried a bit of the offense.
However, the more prominent spots came from CMM. I can`t really remember what he did, but he looked fairly good. He finished the match with a killer ***** frog splash. And it deserved every star!
After the match, Chaos was helped up by the ref, but looked more "independent" than usual.
I won`t bother ranking this match because it wasn`t that long, and despite more offense than usual, it was basically a jobber match.
Served its purpose though; CMM showed us his spots, something he hadn`t really done since coming back to the NSCF. Chaos continues to learn by bumping, and is gradually being moved up by getting more offense in.
However, I have to agree with an observation someone made earlier; CMM may benefit from a heel turn. His playing to the crowd seems forced. However, the fans might take to him if he was a face feuding with top heels.

Match Result: Custom Made Man over Corporal Chaos by pinfall
at 4:00

Second Match: "Evil" Eddie Watts vs. Flesh Gordon
Watts has been promoted to the 2nd match!
Gordon is a complete pandering face now.
As always, I timed the "buildup" to Watts`s match. 49 seconds. Cutting down on it Eddie!
This was a pretty basic match, I don`t know how much I can describe it. Both Gordon and Watts got off some good moves, and the match was reasonably paced (although akwardly at times).
The crowd got very into this match. Watts is good at getting heel heat, and Gordon got a decent measure of the crowd behind him.
At 14:44 of the match, a returning Duke MacIssac came to the ring. He distracted Gordon and Watts scored the win (with his feet on the ropes, I believe).

Match Result: Eddie Watts over Flesh Gordon by pinfall at 15:06
Match Ranking: **1/4
Decent fare, but nothing really spectacular.

Third Match: Hardcore Title Match: Duke MacIssac (Challenger) vs. Massive Damage (Champion)
Brian the owner steps down as the referee in this match and Josh Williams is the ref.
While MacIssac got his usual "Shoots and Ladders" entrance music, Damage couldn`t get any. It couldn`t be located!
Thankfully, these two don`t start into the plunder wrestling right away, and they build it up a little bit.
Damage acknowledged our "Jesse and Nick" chant, and looked to the rafters a few times.
Both guys got off a couple of moves, and a variety of weapons were used (keyboard and garbage can among them). There were some slow points to the match also.
At 11:51 Flesh Gordon comes and to exact his revenge on
MacIssac. His run in costs MacIssac the match.

Match Result: Massive Damage over Duke MacIssac by pinfall at 12:14; Damage retains the hardcore title
(See below for match ranking)

POST-MATCH
Gordon and Damage hug, solidifying another new alliance. Damage learns from Jesse and Nick that there are doughnuts in the back for him and he runs back to the dressing room.
Meanwhile, Eddie Watts runs out and helps MacIssac beat down Gordon. This goes on for a little bit until CMM comes out and makes the save.
Promos ensue, with everyone getting their hands on the mike. They set up a tag match (Watts/MacIssac vs. CMM/Gordon) for the show in North Sydney ten days from now.
What was really strange about this promo was the use of barricades. Watts threw one into the ring. I think it was CMM or Gordon that said, "Keep them coming". Watts eventually threw about four or five in there!

Match Ranking: **
I have a hard time ranking hardcore matches because they aren`t my cup of tea. This wasn`t hard to watch, so I`ll give it **.

Intermission

Fourth Match: Kingman vs. Joe E. Legend
UGH! Not again...
Kingman comes out and cuts a promo. He refers to the place as North Sydney, Newfoundland. He also tells the Joe E fans that they`ll be "changing your (their) shirts at the end of tonight".
Joe E comes out (not with his new t-shit, as Brian said he would!) in a near fatal entrance. He was going to come in with a quick entrance and attack Kingman from behind, but he slipped on his way up to the ring.
Luckily Joe regained his feet and got into the ring fairly quickly and got off the attack as planned.
This match was better than their previous encounters, as Joe carried more of the offense. He got off his pattened pinning combination (don`t know the name of it) and his clothesline.
In a unique spot, when he and Kingman went to the floor, Joe said, "Get me a chair!" I think he realised that it wasn`t possible to do with how close they were to each other (and everyone filling them).
The guy next to me just put his foot out and Joe rammed it into that (the Larry Destiny spot!)
The highlight of the match was Joe E actually hitting his "Joe E Sault"! He didn`t really hit it that well, but he hit it!
At 9:06 of the match (I started timing upon contact, even when it came before the bell) Kingman tossed the ref Williams.
10 seconds later, Joe E pushed him.
5 seconds later, Williams called for the bell.

Match Result: Joe E. Legend and Kingman fought to a double disqualification at 9:21
(See below for match ranking)

POST MATCH
I have to hand it to Brian and Josh on this. This was sold really well.
Williams started screaming, "Do something!" Brian BOOTED it the "backstage area", and the wrestlers came out in droves (I believe that they did this in Halifax last night).
Anyway, Joe succeded at getting at Kingman a few times before the remaining wrestlers prevailed at separating them.
However, the possible highspot of the night would occur not in a match, but in this brawl. Joe E broke away from the faces holding him back and did a tope over the top rope onto Kingman. The barricades continued to take abuse, as it went over from the contact here.
This basically caused a brawl between the faces and heels. The face side was Legend/Cruz/Damage/CMM, and the heel side was the Sinners (minus Acadian Giant), plus Eddie Watts.
Joe E grabbed the mike and cut a promo. He challenged the heels to an 8 man tag match. The heels did the old "come to the ring and then bail out" tactic.
Joe E also took the opportunity to spew out some insults about the Sinners`s sexual preferences, and of course his catchphrase.
I think this match set up a Kingman/Joe E match for next show. AGAIN.
Joe E was probably more over this week that last. He didn`t get the massive heat from the "Joe E fan" section as usual, but there weren`t as many of us. He got more widespread support throughout the whole building.

Match Ranking: **1/2
Decent action. Might have been higher if there was a clean finish, but the finish they ran made sense in the match. Good as it gets for a Kingman match!

Fifth Match (Main event): Table Match: "Wildman" Gary Williams & Chi Chi Cruz vs. the Cardinal Sinners (RAW champion "Kowboy" Mike Hughes & "The Natural" Bobby Rude)
This match didn`t really go that long. It was kind of difficult to work in the ring when sometimes all four of the men were in there, and there was a table in there as well.
Cool spot to end the match (too bad I don`t remember it) that sent both Sinners on the table, but the table didn`t break! Match was declared over.
There was only table in the match, not two. Although they both went through it anyway.

Match Result: Chi Chi Cruz & Gary Williams over Mike Hughes and Bobby Rude at 7:14
Match Ranking: **1/2
This match had some decent action, but there were problems as stated above, and the guys were probably tired of the heat! The match didn`t go that long either.

A few of us talked with the owner Brian after the show and learned the following (some of this may not be new information):
The TV taping will be shown Labour Day weekend
They`ll be doing a two week tour of Newfoundland later this year
They`ll be doing a university tour later this year (I believe I heard UCCB/St. F.X./UNB)
Brian says he gets letters from Vince McMahon about the RAW name!
