Another Fling For Gorgeous George (Monday, June 11, 1962)
LOS ANGELES (AP) � Wrestler Gorgeous George took on his wife as an opponent after he�d had a few drinks, she testified in getting a divorce Friday.
A witness at her Superior Court trial said she wound up with two black eyes as the result of her last non-professional bout.
Judge Leonard Diether granted Mrs. George resumption of her maiden name, Cherie Dupre, which she uses as a dancer and actress.
Miss Dupre, 33, was valet to the golden-curled wrestler before he gave up the ring in 1957. She preceded him through the ropes, sprayed the ring with perfume, spread out a mink run in his corner, removed the golden pins that clasped his curls and removed his robe � one of 200 in his wardrobe.
George, 47, now is a tavern owner and is having a struggle getting started in his new business, his wife testified. She waived alimony. They�ll have joint custody of their two year old son.
They were married in 1958. Mrs. George said she was waiving any financial rights to the book her husband is writing, Gorgeous George � The Human Orchid.
�I don�t want to be rough on him,� she told the judge, �even though it�s been kind of rough on me.�
