Subject: RAW review 07/20/01 North Sydney

Real Action Wrestling July 20th/01 North Sydney, Nova Scotia:

1. Sinners come out and cut a promo, they bring out Kurrgan, Bobby Rude rides on this back, lol. Massive Damage comes out and wants to join the Sinners he points to the ceiling addressing his fans high above in the airplane hangar we call the N.S. forum. I can’t remember what else
happened to him, I think he just left or they beat him up? The whole point of the promo though was to get Kurrgan over as the evil heel.

2. Custom Made Man vs “Evil” Eddie Watts **1/2
-Eddie Watts comes out to some Rob Zombie I think it was Dragula; decent heel music. Eddie is very thick looking and is lathered up in baby oil. Custom comes out to Limp Bizkit which makes him lose points with hardcore metal heads like myself. Custom has lost alot of weight, he
doesn’t look the same. He has also gone from a shaven head to a college frat boy haircut which looks kind of strange on a pro wrestler. A very decent opener compared to other GPW openers in the past, it was a fun match and the crowd was into it. A few missed spots by Custom but
nothing major. Watts gets the win by putting his feet on the ropes but wait....Is that Wildgirl in the front row? She complains to the ref/promoter and the decision is reversed. Custom then throws Watts out of the ring and hits a nice flying cross body to the outside. He then throws Watts into the ring and hits a frog splash for the win(I think:)

3. Corporal Chaos vs Flesh Gordon DUD
-Put two guys who don’t know an armbar from a salad bar in the ring and this is what you get. A squash? Hey, I’m not complaining. Flesh squashes Chaos for the win.

4. Massive Damage vs Kurrgan DUD
-Massive Damage wants a hardcore match but Kurrgan does not, b/c he’s a former WWF TV star. This match was really bad, with Kurrgan attempting the chokeslam 3455345 times and
finally driving Damage into the mat for the 1-2-3. Nothing hardcore happened in this match.

5. Wildman Williams vs Bobby Rude ***1/4
What? No intermission? Yes! We are going to get 6 matches instead of 5, saweet! Before the match starts Bobby Rude is showered with “Velvet panties” chants, funny stuff. Rude acts like Flair which gets under my skin, why can’t one f’n wrestler be original these days; but didn’t Flair
steal Buddy Rogers’s gimmick? Oh no, I’m playing Janus again. This match was nothing but high spots and non stop action, I swear there wasn’t one rest hold. Kowboy ends a great match by interfering. Chi Chi comes down and cuts a promo and there will be a tag match featuring
Wildman/Cruz vs Kowboy/Rude.

6. Joe E. Legend promo: The return of Legend to North Sydney, he cuts a very good promo and is over big time. Out comes Kingman which leads us to:

7. Joe E. Legend vs Kingman ***3/4
Joe E. manhandles Kingman like he was a little child and unloads with his “repetar”(god bless u dusty) of maneuvers. Joe is an unbelievable worker and I’m sure he’ll be back in the WWF in no time and hopefully he will convince Vince that the Joe E. Legend character will work in the big league just as good as it works in the minors. I think this match ended in a no decision; sorry it’s
really late at night.

8. Wildman/Chi Chi Cruz vs Kowboy/Bobby Rude*
-I give this match one star b/c the match itself sucked but it set up a heated feud and the crowd was into it. Chi Chi is the gimp in this match and can’t do much besides rest holds; but for some reason everyone else decides “hey let’s do nothing but rest holds too.” I got really restless
during this match until the ending. Wildman is tied up in the ropes by the Sinners, his wrists are tied to the ropes with tape or something. I don’t know if this was a shoot or a work but Wildman starts going into convulsions and since he is juicing like a stuck pig and in a crucifix like pose it looks like he is being posessed or something. Anyway, Brian, the promoter and security have to
cut his wrists free and after Wildman is free he goes berzerk as I think his circulation was being cut off. So the card is set for RAW’s next show as Wildman and Cruz are pissed and want revenge on the Sinner’s.

That’s all for now folks, thumbs up for a good overall show save for the two duds. I hope to have some GPW and RAW retro reviews I have done up soon. To quote the great Trevor Collins “Goodnight and Godspeed”
