Virgil looked surpried--he really hadn't expected the others to help him find this pack of people they didn't know from Adam.
"Ouch..." Virgil said, wincing in sympathy as Lyn explained what happened to her mecha. "Anyway, like I was saying, this buncha people killed damn near everyone in here and bolted--till this OTHER guy captured them all back in the alley 'round back." He shrugged. "And before you ask, I dunno why I care about what happens to 'em either...can't walk away from a person in need, I guess."
"Besides," Calenderi added, sticking her head out of the backpack, "he made fun of Virgil's dr--MMMMPH!!!"
"Anyway," Virgil contunued, his left hand keeping an iron grip on Calenderi's beak, "I'll tell ya what...help me out on this one, and I'll help with the repairs once we get back to the ship. No charge, natch." He contieued to look for posible witnesses, until he realized a fatal flaw in his original plan. Besides the assassins themselves (who were captured), the only people who knew why they wanted the people in this room dead were in this room already...and, well, dead.
But then he remembered the wreckage of the drones back ing the alley. "Come on...those things looked pretty high-tech. If we check out the remains, there might be some clue as to where they came from." And with that, he left the bar and ran for the alley without waitiing for the others, worried that something might happen to the evidence if they waited too long.
