*Mounting easily, she pushes her into a collected trot, asking Sassy to get "on the bit" with her legs and hands. The mare responds by arching her neck and gently mouthing the bit, lengthening her strides but not quickening the pace in a smooth extended trot. Zoe posts lightly, careful not to hang onto Sassy's mouth or accidentially speed her up with her seat. She regulates the pace. Sitting to Sassy's smooth trot, she nudges her with her calve muscles, and the responsive mare converts to a canter, collected and short. Cutting down the diagonal of the imaginary ring, she performs a flying lead change and continues around in a 20 meter circle. Moving back into a trot, the two half-pass up the diagonal again, changing direction and downstepping into a walk. After performing a flawless turn on the haunches, Zoe applies slight pressure on the reins and sits deeply in the seat of the saddle, and Sassy halts on command. After standing motionless for four seconds, Zoe drops her hand to Sassy's slightly hot neck and rewards her.*
"Great job!" *she says with a smile* "You're going to be stellar." *the mare responds with a self-satisfied grin*
"I know. Must you keep telling me this?" *Zoe makes a face*
"It's nice to get compliments. Don't forget, 5 months ago you were absolutely and positively hopeless at this stuff, and until i got someone to train you you did not comprehend whatsoever what was being asked of you." *She looks down at the proud mare* "C'mon, let's go back to the barn. I think it's feeding time." *she swings her leg around and implusively throws her arms around Sassy, and proceeds to take her home.*
