The siren was removed from the Fire Station when they built the new building in 1998, and it wasn't used for years before that. The last time I remember them sounding it was for the last alarm for Louis Gravinese when he passed away. I think the 6 PM siren test ended when Burlington County took over the Fire, Ambulance and Police dispatching in the late 1970's - but the siren was still used for calls until the late 1980's. I read somewhere if the dispatcher was a little late with the test people would complain - I guess they really counted on that to tell them when it was 6:00.
