Reply to CatB. The discusions were not about 'Boerboels and Police work'. I was interrested to see if the tests used by Dr Slabber to determine the potential of the police dogs at an early age could be used for selection in Boerboels with regard to training ability, temperament and working ability.
I found it interesting because it opened new avenues for possible evaluation of Boerboels not considered before in South Africa. The emphasis was not on police work.

It was a mistake on my part not to follow up on the discusions with Dr Slabber. At that time the HBSA was alone in its endeavor to revive the Boerboel as a versatile farm dog. The scene has changed somewhat and there is an investigation underway, coordinated by David Harris, to make recommendations for the appraisal of the various functional aspects of the Boerboel. Slabber's findings will be passed on to David.
