Subject: Merry Xmas and great expectations for 2004

On behalf of the HBSA I wish you all a Wonderful Xmas and that the New Year will bring joy and fulfillment in your endeavors for betterment of the Boerboel.

2003 has many sweet memories of people, I met personally and through internet, that really care for their dogs. Many of them shared the same need for meaningful improvement of the Boerboel. New concepts came to the fore viz. Historically Correct Boerboel; Working ability and drive for the Boerboel; Meaningful tests (appraisals) to evaluate the various aspects of the historically correct Boerboel.

Piercing questions were asked that had previously been shied away from and balanced and sensible answers tendered. Many of you have helped to lay a new foundation for Boerboel improvement because of your sincere desire for betterment and backgrounds involving other breeds. Even the negative critics have brought forth cool-headed response to help put the "puzzle" together. We have seen outstanding posts and the challenge will be to keep those contributors on their toes, because we all learn.

2004. Consensus will have to be reached soon on most of the above issues and the implementation of required standards of acceptability for reliable breeding animals and breeders

One thing is evident - the old appraisals, with misleading average scores, will have to make way for more scientific correct evaluations. This can only serve the best interests of the breed as a whole and restrict at random puppy producers.
