are you crazy? the better the horn you start with, the easier it is to learn to play. obviously buy the best horn you can in your price range, but think about the future too. why buy a crappy, used horn for 400 when you can buy a decent new horn for the same price with a guarantee?

You buy a less expensive horn because more expensive horns usually have 'harder' fingerings or require better air contol, etc. Also, why buy an expenive one if the kid doesn't like it or simply can't play it?
