I am using a vintage Selmer long shank Soloist hard rubber mouthpiece, Vandoren #2 reed, and a BG metal ligature. This combination is much better than what I used before: current Meyer 6M hard rubber and black Rovner ligature. It is definitely worthy to invest into better mouthpieces and ligatures.
