Blue box traditional reeds are two-cut reeds, they have more pure sound and the tip is very thin. The number is marked thinner than it actaully is; a blue box 3 reed is almost equal to a V16 3.5 reed, that's why the sound seems darker.

V16 is thicker on the tip and the very gradual throughout. The cane seems thicker but the texture actually feels softer to me.

I have tried JAVA before but I only remember I liked V 16 better. I haven't tried ZZ yet.
