to waiwai,torrey:

jason,

Sorry, I have no digital camera. But we can arrange a time for you to see it. Totally free, no obligation to buy it, just to see it. Anytime this week or next. If no body wants it for ONE week, I will sell it to my teacher who was also interested in it. (But he has always been very very mean to me, I hate him and I don't want to give him such a good bargain!!!! I would rather give it to you or anybody than to him).

SS100GG - HK$11000 bought from Professional Music, now sell HK$6000. 100% new! If not new, you can walk away.

I have another one, better one, Yanagisawa S-992 bronze, I bought this as a backup, but S-992 was so much better in sound, tone and mechanism, but of course much much much much more expensive!!!!!! And S-992 never breaks down, so I have no use for this backup horn at all.

Hello, I'm an owner of the Yanagisawa babes - alto A9933 and tenor T9930. They're awefully special in the SUPERB TONAL QUALITY as well as the UNIQUE CONSTRUCTION AND DESIGN (intervening solid silver/brass pipes) that I left many memorable musical moments to my partners and audience in every performance!

Certainly, there's no free lunch on earth - A9933 and T9930 cost me HKD 30000+ and 40000+ respectively. But if you think you're a devoted amateur (like me) or professional, that's the most appropriate INVESTMENT (I prefer to use this word) to bloom your musical experience for LIFELONG.

Actually all the Yani 9XX series are performing above average. Depending on your goal and budget you should be able to find the balance and your dream sax. (I could only afford the 2 above but not 9937 or even higher custom models.)

For the general comments about Yanagisawa and various productions of the other brands, just have a look at the suppliers'description and customers' feedback in www.wwbw.com (Woodwind & Brasswind, the biggest American online musical gear supplier)

Cheers!

Agreeeeee!! I am another happy owner of Yanagisawa 9xx serie (S-992). As a beginner, it helped me to approve 10-folds!!

Amazingly, as a total beginner 3 years ago, I could get as high as Hi-G smoothly and beautifully with S-992's Hi-G key in my SOPRANO!!

Hi Dickenson,

How do you think the sound of S992 - a typical classical-stream soprano sax? Personally I have prejudice against soprano saxophones - because sometimes they just sound like an oboe! Have you ever tried the silver models such as S9030/S9930 and do they sound like a trumpet?

Steve

I meant "it helped me to improve 10-times faster in the past few years!"

Steve,

You are exactly right! S-992's high copper percentage gave it the sound exactly like an oboe - very sweet, soft and round. I have never tried S-993(?) or S9930 Solid Silver, because I have never had the chance, but I assume the solid silver would give much "ding" sound, ringing tones, and more projection & overtones, just like silver trumpets or my solid silver flutes.

Also, I heard that it was the reason why Yanagisawa used Brass Neck on Solid Silver to warm the tone a little, in order to reduce the "Ding" and "Ring".

Personally, I liked the round, sweet sound of an oboe, it touches my heart. I tried to play Oboe, but oboe's Hi-A and above gave me a lot of trouble on my upper lip - because my upper lip is weak. So I gave up oboe years ago.

I then moved on to Soprano to play oboe pieces and it really sounded like an Oboe. But some of my friends told recently that my tone is very sad (out of S-992). Maybe it was me.

Dickenson,

I see why this 'metal oboe' is your favourite. So, it won't be the fantasy for me. As I'm inclined to jazz, I need an edgy and bright sound.
But I've heard it's a different story for T992 (also a bronze model). The additional warmth makes it an ideal instrument in producing dark blue notes. Hmmm, I'm going to get it...

Wow, this is another newbie from Yanagisawa! This is not the A9937 that you're familiar with, it's S9937 with fairly the same basic design!
