Um...You shouldn't just buy a silver sax because you like its outlooking. (Although I admit that Selmer's lacquer is rather disappointing.) The fact beside silver plated saxes look cool is: Silver plating provides a brighter sound compare to lacquer. It requires a little more throat control to make a warm dark tone, especially if you wanna play classical. If you are going to play mainly Jazz and Pop, it may be a good choice, because silver plating also provides a bigger sound. (louder)

I play classical sax and I have a silver plated alto, bronze soprano. For sure, silver plated is much harder to take good care off. Since my sound is very dark and somewhat small, so a silver alto works for me pretty well so far in these years.

I just have a silver Mark VI tenor....have never played an silver plated alto....

anyway the sound is brighter and sweeter....

guess I should get one sometimes later....
