As unfortunately I lost my Jupiter while now I do have budget for a Selmer Alto either II or III.

Since I've just play Sax for 2 month... anyone can tell whether Selmer suitable for beginner? If so, which one is better if I love Jazz sound.

Cheers

Sorry to hear that you've lost ur sax....please take good care to ur next one.

Jupiter, Yamaha or Selmer also have model suitable for beginner. Why some ppl say Jupiter is suitable for beginner? I guess is the budget problem. And also it is not worth for a beginner to use lots of money to buy Yamaha or Selmer but after 1 or 2 months quit it.

If now you have the budget for a more expensive one, and you said you love Jazz sound, I suggest you can go to Tom Lee or whatever music shop to try sax by your own. You can compare different sounds of different brand and model and see which Jazz sound you like. You have already learn about 2 months and I believe you know how to blow the note and scale. Just try more before you buy, nothing to lose and the staff there won't refuse you to try.

You know sound is very subjective. And everyone blow the sound is different too. No one can be the same as you.

If you really like the brand of Selmer, beside series II and III, you can also try Selmer Reference 54 alto saxophone. Besides, if you really want to play Jazz and want a jazz sound, mouthpiece and reed choosing are also important. You may ask the staff to let you try different mouthpieces too. Of couse, bring your own reed or buy from them.

Good luck!

Don't forget to try
1) Selmer Series II silver plated one (Tom Lee);
2) Yanagisawa A-992 bronze model (Professional music).
I have overheard that they got lovely sound, too.

If you are really determined to learn hard, play hard.
A selmer is good for you.

BaNaNa,

Excuse me.

So Selmer is good if I play hard and learn hard.

Are there some saxes good for me?

I like pop music, light music and some classical music. I like to play and learn easily. Particularly I like to reach the lower Bb key easily with my left hand pinky while holding on to 3 other keys firmly with my other fingers..................and at the same time opening my throat wide and closing my eyes in a thoughtful expression to impress other people with a soulful deep deep reverbrating low note.

Selmer keys seems too widely spaced for me to do just that easily.

Hi mark VI.
I am sure that the keys can be adjusted to fit your most comfortable position. Mine are also tuned, for some money of course. I am not trying to say what selmer is good , what others are bad. It is because the arthor "Beginner" ask about selmer so that I answered in that way.

My point was if you are DETERMINED to play, not giving up easily, It's ok. But it's not worthy to but a Selmer for a month and then you lose your interest in sax.
Sorry If I mislead you guys.

Thnaks BaNaNa.

Hmmmmm.......that is very useful.

Now, should I get my sax keys adjusted and solve my long standing Bb note problem once and for all? Hmmmmm..........I better re-exmaine my sax now.

You are right. Selmer is expensive.

Thanks again.

Dear mark VI,

Thanks for your kindly opinion.
You said you like pop, classical music and to open your throat widely ....etc. While your only comment is that Selmer's keys are too widely spaced. So what actually do you want to say? Does the "bad keyed" Selmer make you hate pop, keep your eyes open or something like that?
Mr. "Beginner" loves Jazz sound and you answer it all the way around. Do you intend to help him or ME ?

Best regards, best regards....

Dear BaNaNa,

Easy....

No hard feelings.

I said what I said and mean what I said.

I notice the selmer keys are not as close spaced as some other brands and does not make me feel comfortable. Have you had the same experience?

All the music genre tastes, way of playing are just personal things. Mr. beginner likes something and solicit some advices. I like something else and have my own questions to ask. I may not have help him or help you. (In fact I think I did in a way....... in buying sax one should test saxes key setting and find the sax that is most comfortable. They are not standard like pianos and they differ a lot. Some saxes are impossible to play. I should know).

Sorry.
